LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Recent storms ripped through Campbell County downing trees and power lines and leaving thousands without power. The LaFollette Utility workers “swiftly responded, working around the clock” to restore power and LaFollette Utility Board members commended those efforts during Monday’s workshop.

“I said it with the last storm, and I will say it again, the crews and employees did an amazing job; they are to be commended,” said LUB board chair John Snodderly.

In all, Campbell County had around 4,162 people without power on Friday.

“Crews worked Friday, Friday night and Saturday, and hit it again Sunday and got everyone back on by late Sunday evening,” according to LUB General Manager Regina Kennedy.

A total of 15 poles broke during the latest storm.

The utility district had approximately 15 poles that were broken during the storm event, along with downed power lines and trees.

Kennedy commended crews, employees, office staff, dispatchers and everyone who “did a fantastic job.

“We really do have the best employees,” Kennedy said.

The storm event itself was briefly discussed during the workshop.

“We have seen more and more of these storm events coming through,” said LUB Board member Jay Willoughby.

He asked GM Regina Kennedy “what does a storm of this magnitude cost” in relation to overtime hours, repairs and cleanup an if those funds that these storm events are costing the county could be tracked.

Kennedy said they “would be tied to a work order” and that it could be tracked.

“If we are having five or six of these events a year, we may need to allocate funds to offset some of these costs,” Willoughby said.

The only business voted on during Monday’s LUB meeting was the approval for an application for a Public Entity Partners Matching grant for the Utility.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/01/2024-6AM-PHOTOS SUBMITTED)
