Elevated fire danger through Tuesday night, borderline severe weather likely 2am-7am Wednesday

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- We begin Tuesday with an elevated fire danger through Tuesday night. Fire weather danger is fairly high today as the initial onset of strong winds overlap lingering dry air and resulting low RH values. That’s especially north of I-40 and east of I-75 here in Campbell County due to the overlap of low relative humidity values and increasingly strong winds.

There is a WIND ADVISORY from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. Gusts as high as 45-miles per hour are expected. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Extra caution is a must.

A strong cold front makes its way into Campbell County Tuesday evening through the overnight. Damaging winds will result from this strong front along with widespread showers and possibly some thunderstorms. The time frame for the worst of the storms is 2am until 7am Wednesday. While damaging winds aren`t out of the question given the strong winds aloft, overall risk of severe weather is low tonight and overnight.

Strong winds continue behind the front on Wednesday.  Light snow or flurries possible late Wednesday night, especially along the Cumberland Plateau to southwest Virginia, and higher elevations along the North Carolina border. Light snow accumulation is possible on the mountain tops. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/04/2025-6AM)
