Alderman Jimmy Snodgrass reappointed as vice-mayor
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- On Thursday night, the Jacksboro Board of Mayor and Aldermen met with eight new business items on the agenda. Aldermen Greg Cross and Mark Lay were not present at the meeting.
The first item in new business was the appointment of a vice mayor. The board reappointed Alderman Jimmy Snodgrass.
Next up was a contract to audit with the firm Mitchel, Emert and Hill which was approved.
The board approved CJUC to send the Sewer Use Ordinance to TDEC. Then moved onto approving an inter local agreement which provides mutual aid with the Town of Caryville Police Department.
Kayla Williams was present to speak about the lack of library programs for the children in the town. Williams expressed concern about the alleged two million dollar surplus the town currently has in the budget and its seemingly unwillingness to provide more for the library. Mayor Shayne Green told Williams that the surplus money the town currently has is utilized to keep the town running. After a few minutes of back and forth between Mayor Green and Williams, he referred her back to Gaytha Daugherty Town Librarian to discuss ideas she has for the library to benefit the children of the town.
Last month residents of Sharps Acres Subdivision were present to discuss their objection to having a modular home in their subdivision. The matter was referred back to the planning commission last month. Residents were present last night to address a new concern that has arisen. The residents alleged a camper had been placed at the residence and wanted to know if the town had authorized this to happen. Mayor Green told the residents present that the town does not have that authority. Mayor Green reported that since the last meeting the owner of the property had changed.
