Traffic stop for speeding leads to drug charges

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Not long before sunset last Wednesday afternoon, La Follette Police Officer Joe Hicks was on routine patrol on West Beech Street and clocked the speed of a Nissan Frontier heading in the opposite direction.

In the 30-mile per hour zone, Officer Hicks clocked the bronze colored Nissan traveling at 47 miles per hour, according to the report from the La Follette Police Department. Officer Hicks states in his report that the Nissan crossed the double yellow lines and back to the fog line twice and toward the center lines again as he was initiating the traffic stop.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as Jane Fixter, could not provide proof of insurance and showed glossy eyes with restricted pupils, based on Officer Hick’s report. The officer asked Fixter to walk back to his cruiser, and she allegedly walked in an unsteady manner. Officer Hicks asked Fixter if she had drunk alcohol or taken drugs to which she replied “no, just my normal prescription medication”. Fixter stated Klonopin, Adderall, Losartan and Fluoxetine were her medications.

Fixter agreed to perform a field sobriety test on which she performed poorly including missing on several attempts to touch the tip of her nose, according to Officer Hicks’ written account. The 63-year old Fixter told the patrolman that she had no Achilles tendons and had a knee replacement.

During the inventorying of Fixter’s pick-up truck, two whole and a half peach colored pills, believed to be Adderll, were found along with an empty bottle of a THC gummy. Fixter consented to a blood draw.

Fixture, of 601 Rain Forest Road-Knoxville, was booked into the Campbell County Jail at 7:43pm on May 28, on charges of DUI, schedule II possession, speeding, violation of the lane law and failure to provide proof of insurance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/06/2025-6AM)
