James “Jim” Oris age 94 of LaFollette passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years. During his military career, he traveled the world and often shared stories of the many countries he visited and the presidents he met along the way.

Jim was a devoted Christian who deeply loved his family, his church family, and God. He faithfully served the Lord by helping remodel two churches in Campbell County and one church in Claiborne County.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jim became a professional woodworker, building cabinets and furniture for many families throughout Campbell County. He also taught woodshop at Campbell County High School for several years. Jim never met a stranger and truly enjoyed talking with people, especially attending the Veterans Breakfast in Jacksboro each month.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years Helen Oris, sons Timothy James Oris, and John Michael Oris, parents, Dora and Joe Oris; and his brother, Joey Oris.

He is survived by; his daughters, Michele Lynch and husband Jack, and Payton Oris; his granddaughter, Megan Inman and husband Dustin; and his great-granddaughters, Makayla, Mia, and Nora Inman.

He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Perry, brothers-in-law, Emmett Wampler and John Wampler; his sister-in-law, Ricki Hall; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Amedisys Hospice Care and the caring staff at LaFollette Court Assisted Living Center for their compassion and support. Special thanks are also extended to his caregivers Brenda Dunn and Dena Jo Burke-Miracle; SHAS; the nurses at Campbell County Veterans Medical Center in LaFollette; Dr. Lucas; Dr. Isber; and all of his wonderful medical staff for the exceptional care they provided to Jim.

Jim will be remembered for his faith, service, craftsmanship, kindness, and love for his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family will receive friends from 11 AM to 1 PM Monday, May 11th at Cross-Smith Funeral Home with funeral service following in Cross-Smith Chapel. Interment will be at Powell Valley Cemetery following the service. Military Honors will be provided by Honor Guard of Campbell County.
