Golden Eagles defend home field with 12-3 victory

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was a hot Thursday night on Gibson Field at Jacksboro as the Eagles of Jefferson ventured in from Oak Ridge. Both Eagles teams were looking to bounce back from losses; Jacksboro to Cherokee and Jefferson to Norris.

It was a defense-heavy, penalty-ridden football game. Both teams combined for what had to be thirty penalties. However, Jacksboro really shined up front. The O-line and D-line led by Eagles such as Jaxson Noe, Jonathon Garcia, Porter Bostic, and Jackson Owens out manned Jefferson’s front line.

The play of the line allowed Jacksboro’s Jack Sexton to really run. Sexton broke off two 25+ yard dashes toward the end zone. He also made a couple of nice tackles and had an interception. Thomas Wilson and Avander Demott also carried the ball well.

Another key piece to Jacksboro’s success was Dayliam Parkey who stepped into the starting quarterback role after Jessie Chapman went down with an injury. Parkey ran the offense as if he had ran it for three years. He also was responsible for the two passes that Sexton caught and took to the house.

Late into the fourth quarter, Jefferson marched into Jacksboro territory, bringing up first down and goal from the one yard line. Jacksboro’s defensive front wall stood up to Jefferson on four straight plays, forcing them to turn the ball over, ending the game at 12-3.

Coach Cody Parker was very proud of his entire team, both individually and as a collective unit. Other than the penalties, which he said that they will fix, Parker was very pleased, especially with the defensive stand to seal the game. He plans on giving the team Labor Day off and getting back to work on Tuesday.

Up next is homecoming at Gibson Field. Jacksboro hosts Wartburg Thursday at 7pm. Clayton Carroll and Peyton Ferguson send you all the coverage over the WLAF-Doyle’s Tire Sports Network. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/30/2024-6AM)
