Speeding through La Follette triggered a traffic stop and arrests

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- An alleged speeding truck prompted La Follette Police Narcotic Detective Noah Riggs to see just how fast the Dodge Ram was actually going as it traveled west into the City. It was just after 11am Tuesday when Riggs first saw the truck on East Central Avenue near the Food Lion. “I paced the truck at 60 miles per hour in a 40 MPH zone, and conducted a traffic stop,” said Det.-Sgt. Riggs.

The traffic stop came at the Sunoco fuel station at the Eastgate Center. Driving the truck was 46-year old Robert Daniel Cooper, and his passenger was Calvin Jimmy Geddings, 56. Riggs learned from the dispatch officer that Cooper’s drivers license was suspended.

Soon, K-9 Officer Zack Daugherty arrived with K-9 Officer Goose, and Goose did a free air sniff. The K-9 gave a positive alert on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

Det.-Sgt. Riggs recovered a loaded black semi-automatic Springfield Armory handgun from the center console. Also found there were two wooden pipes with a green leafy substance in them. Geddings allegedly stated that he uses the marijuana for his stomach. Riggs found a black plastic container in the back seat that contained approximately 200-300 rounds of 45ACP ammo and a 38 caliber Charter Arms 38 Special Revolver, with five rounds in the chamber, under the driver’s seat.

Cooper and Geddings explained that the firearms and the ammo did not belong to them, and that it belonged to a friend, according to the report. The dispatch officer alerted Det.-Sgt. Riggs that both Cooper and Geddings were convicted felons.

The charges levied against Cooper of 268 Longmire Lane, La Follette are driving on revoked/suspended, 60MPH in a 40 and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Geddings, from 138 Lil’ Creek Lane-Pioneer, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cooper is free on an $8,000 bond while Geddings remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning on a $15,000 bond. Cooper and Geddings are due in court on Sep. 10. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 08/30/2024-6AM)
