CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- The Caryville Planning Commission met Thursday afternoon with the first item on the agenda, being a subdivision plat approval in the John McGee Industrial Park, which is an M-2 Zone. The planning commission voted on the subdivision plat in 2008, but the plat was never recorded. Planning commission approval was needed to have the plat recorded.

Next was site plan approval for a permanent structure for Ron Carroll to be used as a concession stand at 276 John McGee Blvd next to the Red Roof Inn. Codes Officer Lisa Crumpley will need to approve the building to ensure that it’s up to code. The business will have a 4×8 sign placed about 20 feet high.

The work plan for 2025 was also discussed. Items to be possibly placed on the work plan are set back requirements for C-2 zones, the urban growth plan which details how the town could grow over the next 20 years and restrictions on tiny homes. The commission also discussed homeless shelters and how they cannot be prohibited in the town, but the commission can specify what zone a shelter could be placed in. But first the commission will need to have a definition of use as it would relate to a homeless shelter.

Crumpley submitted a report to the commission about citations she had issued. Four properties were issued citations pertaining to garbage, 542 Park Road, 206 E Maple Street, 382 Loop Road and 332 Loop Road. One property was cited for storm water discharge at 124 Ivey Lane.
