JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Commissioners approved a resolution requesting additional signage at red lights along State Route 63 in Campbell County, specifically at the red light at Old Middlesboro Highway and Big O’s and at Middlesboro Road (Davis Chapel). The resolution requests the department of transportation to place additional signage at the red lights indicating that the “shoulders are not turn lanes.”
The resolution states that while the Tennessee Department of Transportation has “improved the shoulders some”, there is still significant concern by citizens regarding the safety of the red lights and that there is a” need for signage at the red lights indicating that the shoulders are not turn lanes.”
For months Commissioners have received citizen complaints regarding the turnoffs, as well as sent multiple resolutions asking for the Tennessee Department of Transportation to correct these issues.
A copy of the resolution that was passed on Monday will be sent to TDOT, as well as to State Representative Dennis Powers and State Senator Ken Yager.
In other business, County Commission members approved of the county to receive and spend the grant funds that the General Sessions Court had applied for back in October.
The county’s General Sessions court has received an award of a $100,000 Safe Baby Court grant and a $16,000 grant award from the Tennessee Recovery Program.
“Now they have received the money, and we need a motion for them to get those funds,” explained Commission Chair Johnny Bruce.
Commissioners also approved a grant contract for the Campbell County Airport. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-03/12/2025-6AM)
There should be turn lanes at those intersections. It would make the turns much safer and more convenient.
