A wildfire continues burning this morning along the Anderson-Campbell county line

Firefighters work on a fire line Wednesday evening.

ROCKY TOP, TN (WLAF)- In the Beech Grove community, due west of Rocky Top (Lake City), a wildfire remains active this morning, according to the Tennessee Division of Forestry. The fire is just over the Campbell County line into Anderson County, and firefighters from the Campbell County Rural Fire Service, the Caryville Volunteer Fire Department and La Follette Fire Department are providing mutual aid.

Firefighters game plan Wednesday afternoon at the staging area, Lake City Middle School, before heading to the fire zone.

Captain Daniel Lawson with the CCRFS describes the scene as a large wildland fire.

So far, 80 acres have burned as of Thursday around 8:30am.

“We’re staging over here at the Lake City Middle School, but the fire is back that way like you’re going to Briceville, but it’s further north of Briceville,” said La Follette Fire Chief Jimmy Pack.

As of 3:49pm Thursday, the Tennessee Division of Forestry describes the wildfire fire as active with 125 acres being burned so far. That’s a 40% containment according to the agency.
