Karns roughs up Cougars in first region game for both teams

KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- Two old football rivals met up Friday as Karns hosted Campbell in the opening Region 3-AAAAA contest for the Beavers and Cougars.
It was the 47th meeting between these two schools going back to 1977. Friday’s 37-0 Karns win was the Beavers 28th series win to 19 for the Cougars.
Karns won the toss, received and started a short-lived drive. Beavers quarterback Austin Slover was picked off by Campbell’s Sam Sexton as the Cougars took possession and grabbed early momentum.
Campbell was not able to get points off the turnover. “We need to take advantage of those opportunities,” said Campbell Head Coach Taylor Ownbey.
“We must continue to work, continue to get better, and I think these kids are doing it. I love these kids, and they’re battling their tails off now,” said Ownbey.

Campbell, 0 & 3, comes home after its most challenging start ever to a football season with three straight road games. The Bobcats of Knoxville Central, 2 & 1, visit Reynolds Field on Friday for a Region 3 match-up.
