JV Eagles, Lady Eagles, and Varsity Eagles all claimed wins on Thursday

JACSKBORO, TN (WLAF)- Round two of the Battle of the Birds took place at Jim and Linda Agee Gymnasium at Jacksboro Middle School on Thursday, and it was also eighth grade night.

Jacksboro never trailed to LaFollette at any point in the night, rather that be during the JV game, Lady Eagles’ game, or varsity boys contest.
The girls game started in a unique, but exciting way. Jacksboro started all 8 eighth graders. Yes, for a moment it was 8 vs 5! This resulted in a technical foul. Jacksboro also honored all 8 eighth graders by putting them in at the very end of the game.
The Lady Eagles ended up defeating LaFollette 66-12 after leading 30-5 at halftime. Jacksboro outscored the Owls 27-0 in the third quarter.
This caps off an undefeated season for the Lady Eagles, finishing a perfect 16-0, 10-0 in district play, and the number one overall seed in the district tourney.
Taraji Abernathy, the Mills Door and More Lady Owl of the Game, was the leading scorer for LaFollette with seven points. Heaven Marlow scored four points, and Piper Wells rounded out the scoring column with one point.
For Jacksboro, Julie Lawson was the Mills Door and More Lady Eagle of the Game. She was tops in scoring with 16 points. Alexa York scored 13 points. Addy Coleman totaled 12 points. Khloe Johnson scored seven. Lacie Hatmaker finished with six points. Olivia Boucher tallied five points. Brooklyn Rutherford had three. Alli Hinch and Kylie Perkins contributed with two points apiece.
As for the Eagles, they also dominated the Owls. Jacksboro held LaFollette scoreless in the first quarter, to lead 20-0 after one. The Eagles trotted out all 5 eighth graders to start and played them the entire first half. In the second half, all bench players suited up for the Eagles. Jacksboro kept growing the lead on their way to a 55-12 win.
This win puts Jacksboro at the three seed in the district tournament and 15-6 overall, 6-4 in district play.
The Mills Door and More Owl of the Game was Bentlee Lane who finished with eight points. Chase Suttles scored three. Mason Wormsley and Zeke Stiner both totaled two points apiece.
The Eagles top scorer and Mills Door and More Player of the Game was David Smith who tallied 13 points on the night. Jack Sexton, also receiving player of the game honors, finished right behind him with 12 points. Max Stanfill scored nine. Kinden Heatherly finished with eight points. Tatum Russell scored seven. Landyn contributed four points. Jerisn Smith scored two, and Skyler Moore had one point.
LaFollette’s next game is Friday at home against Powell Valley.
