Was driving with no insurance
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- La Follette Police Officer Joseph Hicks was on routine patrol Saturday evening when he witnessed a late model Pontiac allegedly fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign at Five Point at the intersection of South Ave. and West Central Ave.
Hicks initiated a traffic stop on the gray 2006 Pontiac G6, and the driver, 59-year-old Timothy Wayne Smith, said he did not have a driver’s license, according to the police report. Smith could not provide proof of insurance though he did have an ID.
Smith’s ID number was run through the La Follette Police Dispatch Center coming back that Smith had nine previous revoked driver’s license charges. Hicks then arrested Smith.
It was learned that Smith’s passenger is the registered owner of the Pontiac.
During a search of the car Hicks allegedly discovered a clear cellophane wrapper under the driver’s seat. The wrapper contained a white crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine, arrest records said.
Smith was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance, driving on a revoked driver’s license-10th offense, failing to stop at a traffic control device and financial responsibility law. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-01/07/2025-6AM)
