JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- County Commissioners will make it official next week, allocating $100,000 in ARPA funds to the two senior citizen centers in the county. Commissioners passed the budget amendment last month appropriating the leftover ARPA funds and designating them to the area senior centers. However, before the county could approve the funds to be released, both senior centers had to show how the funds were to be spent by the commission’s Dec. 9th workshop.
According to County officials, both senior centers provided paperwork, and commissioners will vote to “make it official and spend the money†at next Monday’s meeting.
The Senior Center located in LaFollette will get $65,000, while the Senior Center in Jellico will get $35,000.
The budget amendment allocating these funds is set to be voted for approval at next Monday’s commission meeting.
Commissioner Beverly Hall originally brought the issue before the commission of “the dire need” the senior center was in for updates such as a new roof, new equipment several months ago. Commissioners met with representatives from East Tennessee Development District several times last month for input on how exactly the remaining ARPA funds could be spent and getting the go ahead on how to allocate to the Senior Centers.
Commissioner Hall will be carrying this agenda item for next week.
“That’s going to be a good thing coming at Christmas for them,” said Commission chairman Johnny Bruce. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-12/13/2024-6AM)
