ONEIDA, TN. (WLAF)- It was a heartbreaking night at Dr M. E Thompson Field at Oneida. Jacksboro lost to the Indians in a hard fought battle 30-14. Jacksboro falls to 5 and 2 while Oneida advances to 7 and 0.
The hardest part of the night for the Blue and Gold was the loss of Jack Sexton. Late in the second quarter after running hard, shedding tacklers, Sexton was hit in the leg/knee area. The extent of his injury was unknown but Sexton was carried off the field, remained out the rest of the game and will be out likely the remainder of the regular season.
There was a bright spot in the sadness though as both teams, including the PA announcer at Oneida, united for a moment of prayer following Sexton’s injury.
Head Coach Cody Parker said that obviously the loss of Sexton means a lot. He told his team that “Jack wouldn’t want us to lay down.“ He said “our pre-season goals are still in front of us, and that we’ve gotta find a way.â€
Up next for Jacksboro, it’s 8th grade night. The Eagles host Horace Maynard at Gibson Field at 7pm. Following this, the Eagles get a 1st round bye in the playoffs. Clayton Carroll and Robert Kirby send you all the action beginning at 6:45pm over the WLAF Doyle’s Tire Sports Network.
