Three mayor candidates, four for council in La Follette’s Nov. election turn in petitions

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- There was more activity Thursday surrounding the Caryville and La Follette races coming up in November.

Board of Education veteran and career City of La Follette department head Johnny Byrge returned his completed petition to the Campbell County Election Commission Office on Thursday. Byrge joins Phillip Farmer and Scott Kitts in the City of La Follette mayoral race of candidates who have returned petitions. Byrge recently resigned his post on the BOE after serving 24 years, six terms, and plans to soon retire from the City of La Follette.

The La Follette election field of candidates is becoming a bit crowded with now four candidates vying for mayor and six candidates going after two council seats. Election day is Tue., Nov. 5.

Monday, June 17, was the first day to pick up a petition to run in the November election, and 15 petitions have been requested so far. The deadline to qualify is Thu., Aug. 15, at noon.
