LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The City of LaFollette Police Department has another full time officer. Tuesday afternoon at the regular monthly meeting of the LaFollette City Council, Isiah Lloyd was promoted from a part- time officer to a full- time officer. Councilman Stephanie Solomon made the motion to promote Lloyd, the motion was seconded by Councilman Phillip Farmer. All members of the council voted “yes†except Councilman Charles “Chuck†Queener on the promotion.
A group of citizens was present to speak with the council about the possibility of moving the skate park. The group reported that about 50 people use the skate park and would like to have some input about where it is moved. Mayor Cliff Jennings requested the group come to next month’s workshop to discuss its concerns.
Four resolutions were approved beginning with Resolution 2023-17 authorizing the City of LaFollette to participate in PEP Risk Management Pool (Safety Partners) Drivers Training Matching Grant Program, then Resolution 2023-18 to apply for the 2020 TAP 4 Beech Street sidewalk grant, next was Resolution 2023-19 amending the 2023/2024 Budget and finally Resolution 2023-20 amending the 2023/2024 Budget. Four ordinances were approved beginning with Ordinance 2023-12 abandoning a portion of unopened street located within West Chestnut Street in the City of LaFollette, final reading, Ordinance 2023-13 abandoning a portion unopened street located within North 19th Street in the City of LaFollette, final reading, then Ordinance 2023-14 amending Title 17 Chapter 1 Refuse and Trash Disposal. The ordinance changes the way debris will be picked up. Finally Ordinance 2023-15 abandoning a portion unopened street located within 100 block of East Elm Street in the City of LaFollette had a first reading.
The council voted to amend policy and procedures for the police department for Flock Cameras. The Flock Cameras are used to read license plates and assist with crimes and Amber alerts.
In the public works department a promotion for Jacob Ellard to a full- time sanitation worker at a salary of $32,136.00 effective Oct. 7, 2023 was approved.
Other items approved on the agenda at yesterday afternoon’s meeting was a declaring several items as surplus property, an event permit for Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, and a city wide yard sale on Nov. 3-4, a Friday and a Saturday. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/04/2023-6AM)
