Campbell defeated Central on Friday night to win first district game in 14 tries
By Clayton Carroll
JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Cougars stepped on Brown Court Friday to battle the district foe Bobcats of Knox Central after an 18 day period of without basketball games.
It didn’t take long for Campbell to shake the dust off as Gavin Cox and Jake Hatmaker nailed some threes, to propel Campbell to a 18-10 lead after one quarter of play.

In the second quarter, Campbell kept up the pace, and their success with the long ball. Jordan Day and Gavin Owens each sunk a three-pointer, and Campbell’s defense held Central to only 18 points in the second quarter. At the half, Campbell was out in front of the Bobcats 34-28.
Central, in the third and fourth quarter, stormed back to knot things up at 46 with just under 7 minutes to go in the game. The Bobcats gained their first lead over Campbell with 6:23 to go in the contest. After this, the game really turned into an intense back-and-forth affair. With 4:10 left in the ballgame, Central grabbed their largest lead of the night 52-49.
With 46.9 seconds left, the Cougars, thanks to some clutch buckets from the Day twins, Jordan and Logan, as well as two crucial free throws from Gavin Cox, held a narrow lead on the Bobcats 59-58.
Campbell would not relinquish this lead, claiming their first district win since the 2021-2022 season, 63-58.
