CAMPBELL COUNTY, TN. (WLAF)- A LaFollette man charged with disabling his estranged wife’s brakes and setting their home on fire has seen his criminal charges resolved.

In 2023, Phillip Justin Williams was arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He was charged with attempted murder and arson.

Last Monday, Williams pleaded guilty to the reduced charges of vandalism $2,500 to $10,000 and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon involved. He was sentenced to a split confinement of 271 days with credit for time served. Williams will also spend the next five years on probation.

On Dec. 29, 2022, an investigation began into a house fire that occurred in the 200 block of Magnolia Lane in LaFollette the previous day. Agents and investigators determined the fire had been intentionally set. The investigation revealed Williams, the homeowner, was responsible for starting the fire. Further investigation revealed that prior to the fire, Williams disabled the brakes on the vehicle driven by his estranged wife. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED 5/6/2025-6AM)

  1. Wow that is a light sentence for such serious charges. If you fail to publish the criminal; you encourage the crime.

    1. A slap on the wrist for trying to kill someone and burn down their home. Don’t understand why sentencing is so lenient in the legal system.
