Thursday wreck claims the life of a young Campbell Countian

Accident happened before 4:30pm Thursday at entrance to Cove Lake State Park

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- A young Campbell County woman has died from injuries sustained in a Thursday afternoon wreck, according to authorities. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and is yet to release her name pending notification of next of kin.

Just before 4:30pm Thursday, Caryville Fire and Police along with other agencies responded to the scene of a three vehicle crash on the four lane in front of the entrance to Cove Lake State Park.

Reports coming in to WLAF are that a car, an SUV and a county sanitation truck were involved. The SUV was struck in T-bone fashion.

At least one person, a young woman, was injured and was transported to a Knoxville hospital by Campbell EMS. She died Thursday evening at the hospital, according to one official. A medical helicopter was not available to fly.

Traffic was slowed for quite a while in each direction, especially coming off the interstate.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/15/2026-6AM)
