The Town of Caryville meets Monday in its regular monthly meeting

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- Raymond Phillips, a Bruce Gap Road resident, attended Monday night’s Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting to discuss an issue he was having with a neighbor’s dogs. Phillips alleges that the neighbor’s dogs have been chasing his grandkids in his yard when they come out to play. Phillips reported that he had spoken with the police department to no avail.

Mayor Bobby Stooksbury requested that Chief Freddie Stagnolia speak with the man after the meeting. Stooksbury reported that he would have the codes officer go out as well since the city does have a leash law. Phillips stated that if he had to he “would see a lawyer”.

Mitch Loomis with East Tennessee Development District attended the meeting to discuss engineer contracts from Cannon and Cannon Inc. to provide engineering services from phase two of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) all inclusive park and amphitheater. The board tabled the discussion due to a shelter not being included in the contract.

A second reading of Ordinance 2024-09 updating Title 13 of the Town of Caryville municipal code on slum clearance and redevelopment act was passed.

Ordinance 2024-10 amending the annual operating budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year in the state street aid fund for paving on Mountain and Tram Rd was approved. Prior to the approval the board suspended the rules to declare the road repair an emergency. The cost of the project is $10,962.

In fire department business, the board approved declaring 16 items as surplus. The board then approved donating five radios and five pagers to the Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Department.

The town will host Trunk or Treat at the Caryville Cares Playground on Thursday, Oct. 31, 5 to 8 pm. Aldermen Eric Jones told the board he would like to see them do something with the playground for Christmas. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/10/2024-6AM)
