The challenges began Sunday morning around La Follette for City of La Follette Public Works crews. This fallen tree over West Hemlock Street was one of the worst situations LPW dealt with on Sunday.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Excessive rainfall, flooding and high winds created problems all across Campbell County on Sunday, knocking out power, closing and damaging roads.

LUB crews working a power outage in the Cedar Creek community had to park and walk to this power outage.

There were some power outages late Saturday night into early Sunday. However, about 9am Sunday is when power outages really began cropping up, according to Regina Kennedy, LUB General Manager. The outages were scattered, more than 40 at one time, and upwards of 2,500 LUB customers affected.

This tree had to be cut off the power lines it had fallen across.

“We had approximately 10 broken poles. Though most of our outages were caused by downed trees,” said Kennedy. As of WLAF publishing time on Monday, less than 65 LUB customers were without power.

Crews with the Campbell County Highway Department dealt with downed trees, high water, mud slides and more across the county. Late Saturday night is when the first crew was called out.

Campbell County Highway Department crews had their work cut out for themselves on Sunday.

“It got pretty rough. We had about a dozen trees down in the roads, and we worked with the folks at LUB and the La Follette Fire Department to get the roads cleared,” said Casey Boshears, Director of Public Works for the City of La Follette. One big tree that fell on Ridenour Lane broke a couple of power poles, Boshears adds. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-02/17/2025-6AM)
