Releases statement following vote in favor of Tennessee Education Freedom Act of 2025
NASHVILLE, TN. (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Sen. Ken Yager, (R-Kingston), today released a statement following his vote in favor of the Education Freedom Act which passed during a special session of the General Assembly.

“Senate Bill 6001 establishes Education Freedom Scholarships to empower parents to choose the best education suited to their child,” said Yager. “As a former classroom teacher in the public school system, I know how important parental involvement is in the life of their child. Parental involvement improves academic performance and self-esteem. There are many great public schools in Tennessee. I am very proud of the schools in my district. We have 147 school districts across the state and not all students have access to quality education. SB 6001 fixes that problem. Historically, I have opposed similar bills in the past because of the financial impact on local school districts. Gov. Lee recognizes this issue and has fixed this problem in this bill. When enacted, this bill will hold local schools harmless. If a student takes a scholarship and disenrolls from his/her public school, the state contribution will stay with the local school system. No school loses funding due to the implementation of the Education Freedom Scholarship.”
