Rev. Carl Henderix Young, on the early morning of March 28, 2025, Rev. Carl heard “well done my good and faithful servant” as he saw Jesus face to face, along with welcome home daddy from his beloved daughter Dianna Lynn Russell.
Rev. Young was born on April 6, 1939, to Haskie and Silvia Young in the hills of Kentucky. He was the youngest of 5 children and proud coal miner’s son.
When Rev. Carl was 16 years old, he met the love of his life and life partner Mary Edna Galbway. They married on October 6, 1956, and started their life together. In 1957 they welcomed their son Carl Joel and in 1958 their daughter Dianna Lynn.
Rev. Carl was a welder by trade, but God saw something so much bigger for Carl and Ms. Edna, in 1963 he was called to preach the Word of God. He attended Clear Creek Baptist School, where he received the 1st of many degrees. He continued his seminary schooling at Cumberland University and received his Doctorate from Luther Rice Collage.
With Rev. Carl’s ministry he was led to preach in Chevrolet, Ky, Sunbright, TN, Harriman, TN, LaFollette, TN, Abingdon, VA, Wartburg, TN, and back to Abingdon, VA, where he and Ms. Edna made a home. Rev. Carl last pastored at Mendota, VA.
He was also a chaplain for LaFollette Resue Squad and Bristol Compressors in Bristol, Va and Sparta, NC.
After many years of service, he and Ms. Edna made LaFollette, TN home along with his love of trains.
He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Edna Young, son Carl Joel Young and wife Bonnie; grandson Aaron Russell and wife Tracy, granddaughters Tabitha Russell and Susie Stokes; great grandkids Kayla Fox and Eli Vowels; God daughter Elizabeth Lawson; and host of adopted grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
With Rev. Carl’s ministry he led many souls to the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a wonderful husband, man, friend, Pastor, counselor, and mentor.
He is now praising the Lord hitting and getting into Heaven! It just got Gooder and Gooder.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shaan Valji with CHET and UT hospice for the wonderful care of Rev. Carl.
Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025, in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 PM with opening prayer by Ron Bruce, obituary read by Rev. Bryan Burge, funeral service by Bro. David Barrett, and closing prayer by Rev. Phil Fischbach.
