Teachers make a difference in their students’ lives every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard-working educators with a weekly feature.

This week’s featured teacher is Nikki Creech. She teaches second grade at Valley View Elementary School and is in her second year as an educator.

Nikki Creech

Creech is from Harlan County, KY. She attended the University of the Cumberlands and received her bachelor’s degree in p-5 elementary and p-12 special education.

“I played softball in college and now I coach for the middle school and high school here in Campbell County. I teach 2nd grade at Valley View Elementary, and this is my second-year teaching,” Creech said.

She said her inspiration for teaching came from her high school math teacher, Robin Sanders.

“She is a walking example of the fact that our jobs are more than just teaching standards. I understood that and I wanted to take on the role of being just as influential in other kids’ lives, like she was mine. She was not only a teacher, but a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen, and she showed up and stood up for her students. She gave us a voice,” Creech said.

Her favorite part of her job is “getting to know her students and watching them grow each year.”

“I love watching their personalities and confidence grow throughout the year. I’m not from here, so building those relationships with them gives me the feel of having a family here too. I tell my students all the time I’m like their big sister,” Creech said.

Another favorite part of her job is where she works, along with her co-workers.

“I cannot say enough about Valley View. I’m truly so blessed to be where I am. They have taken care of me and become family. Mr. Dotson, Ms. April, and Ms. Becky are the best leaders ever. My job would not be half as enjoyable as it is, if it weren’t for them and my amazing 2nd grade team, Kaitlin Sowder, Michelle Wright, and Lisa Reaves.”

Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros. To nominate a teacher for teacher of the week honors, please send your nomination to wlaf@1450wlaf.com.
