WLAF’s Charlie Hutson caught up with the Aldeman family on Wednesday afternoon at Mugs Ice Cream.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Since its opening in 2021, Mugs Ice Cream has welcomed visitors from all 50 states, and Wednesday brought more folks, first timers, from outside Tennessee.

“It’s kind of a family reunion in East Tennessee as most of us live in Illinois and Virginia. This is a half-way spot, a beautiful place to get together,” said Matt Aldeman.

Mugs, at 2435 Jacksboro Pike, La Follette, is helping you cool off this 4th of July holiday weekend. Mugs is open today from 4pm to 9pm and Friday from four until 10 with its usual Saturday hours of 2pm to 10pm.

It didn’t take long for the Aldeman family to realize that Mugs features more than a scoop and a cone.
Visitors to Mugs Ice Cream have come from the 50 states, Canada and beyond.

On Sunday, July 5th, Mugs Ice Cream has special fireworks show hours and will be open from 4pm until 10pm. Mugs is generally closed on Sundays.

The Aldeman clan filled up a couple of tables outside Mugs Ice Cream.

Whether it’s today, tomorrow, the 4th or even Sunday, the holiday weekend is likely to bring out more locals and out-of-staters than usual to enjoy Mugs Ice Cream. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-07/02/2026-6AM)
