City of La Follette’s regular monthly meeting is today at 5:30pm at City Hall

City Administrator Stan Foust and Mayor Cliff Jennings finalize the contract to pave Beech Street.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- At yesterday afternoon’s City of LaFollette monthly workshop, administration matters were heavy on the agenda. Prior to the start of the meeting, Mayor Cliff Jennings signed the Beech Street paving contract.

Council candidate Mike Evans was on the agenda to discuss the possibility of doing a ride along with a police officer at night and then spend some time at the fire station, codes department and public works department. “I want to observe what’s going on in the city,” said Evans. After a lengthy discussion, City Attorney Reid Troutman advised the council that insurance would not allow a ride along. Jennings stated that “the liability is too great”.  City Administrator Stan Foust requested that Evans make an appointment to speak with the department heads.

Foust announced the city would be hosting another food truck event on Fri., Oct. 4 from 5 to 8 pm, behind city hall and then Seargeant Park in the Dark on Fri., Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 pm.

Two event permits will be on the agenda for approval this afternoon beginning with Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church and then the 2024 Tally Town Italian Festival.

The council will vote on transferring Jared Dobbs to city maintenance and appointing Jennifer and Kaylee Queener to the LaFollette Beautification Board.

Approval of reallocating unused capital outlay note funds to the LaFollette Fire Department to purchase turn out gear.

Three promotions will be voted on Tuesday afternoon beginning with Jared Hicks to a full-time patrolman and Justin Painter to a full-time patrolman effective Oct. 5. Hicks has been with the department since January and Painter has been with the department since Oct. 2023. The third promotion is Jacub Ellard to a full-time sanitation worker effective Oct. 5.

With the multi-use sports building opening fees need to be set. During the workshop the council discussed school teams could use the building and the golf simulator for free. But public rates for the golf simulator will be $36 per hour and the batting cages will be $10 for 30 minutes and $15 for an hour. The building will be open Mon- Sat from 8 am to 8 pm and Sunday 1-5 pm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/01/2024-6AM)
