Mattie Ilene Bowman, age 92 of LaFollette went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2025 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family after battling Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on September 11, 1932, in LaFollette to the late Charlie and Ollie Nelson. Mattie was a charter member of Murrayville Baptist Church for 75 years. Mattie loved the Lord, her family, her church and her community.
Mattie was a special lady that had a special place in her heart for the sick and people in need. Mattie was an active member of her church, always leading and directing the lost to the Lord.
In addition to her parents, Mattie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years Bobby Bowman; her brothers, Lawrence, Herman, Monroe and Willard Nelson; her sisters, Jerene Cox and Brenda Wilson.
Mattie is survived by her sons; Michael and Linda Bowman of LaFollette, Allen and Nancy Bowman of Caryville, Wendell and Dena Bowman of LaFollette; her daughters, Pam and Derick Hembree of LaFollette, Tracy and Eddie Crabtree of Jacksboro; her sister Nina Jo Brantley and Vonette Cadle both of LaFollette; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday April 7, 2025, in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral procession and services will be held at Murrayville Baptist Church on Tuesday April 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Virgil Farmer and Rev. Leach officiating. Interment will follow at Murrayville Baptist Church Cemetery.
