LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- “I didn’t see that coming,” said Dave Watson, a member of the Lions Club. Watson goes on to say that he was very surprised when he was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship at Monday’s regular Lions Club meeting held at the La Follette Community Center. The fellow is the highest honor a club can bestow upon a member

Melvin Jones was the founder of the Lions Club.

When Watson’s son was a member of the Boy Scouts in their Midwest community, the scouts often teamed with the Lions Club on projects. “When my son aged out of scouts, and that’s been 25 years ago, I joined the Lions Club,” said Watson.

Keltie Baker Kerney, the District Governor for District 12-N, was on hand to make the presentation of a plaque, letter and pin. “What an amazing Lion you are,” said Kerney as she presented the Melvin Jones Fellow named after the founder of the Lions Club.

Lion Dave Watson was taken by surprise when it was announced at Monday’s meeting he was receiving the Lions Club’s highest honor.

Watson, who has been retired for 10-11 years, is proud to say that he is happily retired in Campbell County. “I like the community and the people,” said Watson.

There is a lot of opportunity to serve here, according to Watson. “Giving back is what it’s all about,” said Watson.

Watson serves the Lions Club, he calls it his hobby, and also plays a key role with Habitat for Humanity.

For those who know Watson, it’s no surprise why he was presented with the fellowship. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/24/2024-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
