LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- The City of LaFollette started its monthly meeting on Tuesday with a budget amendment.

With Resolution 2024-17 the city amended its 2024-25 budget to include a nine-month maintenance position for city hall. The total amount of the amendment was $31,815 and includes salary, bonuses, tax and retirement funding for the position.

The council moved through the rest of the agenda approving the following:

  • An event permit for Coolidge Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.
  • An event permit for the 2024 Tally Town Festival.
  • The appointment of Johnny Green to the E911 Board.
  • The appointment of Jennifer and Kaylee Queener to the LaFollette Beautification Board.
  • The reallocation of $27,000 from an unused Capital Outlay Note to the LaFollette Fire Department to purchase turn out gear.

The council rejected a bid from Southern Contractors for work on the Dossett Bridge Project. Southern Contractors’ bid was around $1 million too high, according to LaFollette City Administrator Stan Foust. As a result, the project will be rebid.

In other business:

  • Joseph Hicks and Justin Painter were promoted to full- time patrolmen positions effective Oct. 5.
  • Jacub Ellard was promoted to a full-time sanitation position effective Oct. 5.

The council also agreed to the cost for the community to use the newly installed golf simulator and batting cages.

For the golf simulator the cost will be:

  • $20 plus tax for 30 minutes per person.
  • $36 plus tax for one hour.

Campbell County Schools Golf Teams can you the simulator at no cost during the season but a coach must be present.

For the batting cages the cost will be:

  • $10 plus tax for 30 minutes per person.
  • $15 plus tax for one hour per person.
  • $45 plus tax for one hour per team.

Campbell County Schools’ baseball and softball teams along with the City of LaFollette Little League Teams will be able to use it free of charge for practice during the season but a coach must be present.
