Kenneth Powell, age 94 of LaFollette, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 6, 2025. He was born in Mary Helen, KY., a coal mining camp near Harlan, KY, on July 9, 1930, to Jerome Oscar Powell and Susan Lee Powell. The family moved to Speedwell, TN, in 1950. Kenneth was employed as a carpenter at all the Oak Ridge nuclear plants. He was a member of Mary Helen United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Marlin Beech.

Stepson: William and wife Cindy Sowder

Step-Grandson: Will Sowder

Sister: Marilyn Powell Beech

Nephew: Ronald Beech and wife Carol Shaefer Beech and their children, Marlie, Christopher, Nathan Beech, and Kayle Beech Watson

Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Cross-Smith Funeral Home and proceed to Bakers Forge Cemetery for Graveside Service and Interment at 3 PM.

  2. Ken used to come to a restaurant that I ran every morning about 25 years ago. He was a good man that always had kind words for everyone he talked to. Will miss him. R.I.P. Ken.
