Hunters Branch Road’s connection to the four lane is one of the busiest exits-entrances in the county.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Commission met Monday evening, approving an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation regarding closing Hunters Branch Road for an upcoming state project that will make improvements on the road turnoff.

According to County Commissioner Rusty Orick who got some information on the project, it will be over $3 million paid for by the state and is part of the ongoing Hunter Branch Realignment.

It includes a deceleration lane, a red light and other work at the intersection and will help the traffic, according to Commissioner Orick, who said he had also spoken with Road Superintendent Ron Dilbeck who said it would help the area. The traffic light makes for the 17th light from I-75 to Big O’s.

The four lane is getting another traffic light.

The agreement with TDOT states that the contractor will notify the county at least 14 days before the closure and that TDOT will maintain and install all the necessary detour signs needed for the temporary closure.

Also approved on Monday was for the Surplus of two F350 s which will be transferred from the EMS to the sanitation department.

The 2026-2027 grant contract agreement between the state and the Campbell County Health Department was approved, as was the application for a litter grant.

The commission meeting was recessed until Thursday, June 25, at 6 pm, to finish up the year-end budget amendments.  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-06/16/2026-6AM)

    1. It will be a portion of Hunters Branch Road with time-to-time delays on the four lane. There will be detour signs posted ahead of time.

  1. Plan on traffic being more congested everyday now. Why don’t we just put a red light at every turn off lane and exit road from the highway. Omg

  2. Like we need more stop lights. If ppl would just wait their turn and not hit the gas to run the stop sign into the middle of traffic. I can see putting in a turning lane for the ppl that turn down hunter’s branch off the 4 lane

  3. Just my 2 cents worth, I think the congestion that occurs every evening backing up from Walmart traffic signal to Towestring Rd traffic signal will now be a backup from Walmart to Hunter’s Branch Rd traffic signal. It’s going to be worse, not better. A deceleration lane is needed and would work more efficiently in my opinion.

  4. As short as the road is and as few people that would be affected, why not make it a one way road and bring the traffic out at the Gambels light.

  5. Hunter’s branch road needs to be made one way from 25w/63 end.
It take me less time to get to Caryville exit from Knoxville than to get from Caryville exit to Davis Chapel…
