Howard “Peanut” Cummins, age 74 of LaFollette went to be with His Lord on December 19, 2023. He was born in Corbin, Kentucky on November 1, 1949.  He was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.  Peanut worked for CSX transportation for 38 years. He served as a Campbell County School Board member. He was also the state Chairman for AAU Tennessee Girls Basketball and Governor of the Southeastern District of AAU. He enjoyed watching young ladies play basketball and helping them reach their dreams of playing at the collegiate level.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Marcella Cummins, and his grandson, Miles Cummins. 

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Ann Franzman Cummins, his son Rick Cummins and wife, Terra, and his daughter, Elizabeth Robinson and husband, Jason. He had 4 grandkids, Madyson Cummins, Zander, Josef, and Jenna Kate Robinson. He has 2 sisters, Christine Bixler and Shirley Hilgert.

The family would like to thank the employees at LaFollette Court Assisted Living who cared for him as well as the Hospice staff of UT.

A celebration of Life will be Friday, December 22, 2023, 5:00 P.M. at Cedar Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Bryan Burge officiating.  The gathering of friends will be from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. before Services.  The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Charity of your choice in Peanut’s honor.  Walters Funeral Home of LaFollette is honored to be serving the family of Howard “Peanut” Cummins.

  1. MaryAnn I am both shocked and saddened by this news. I never had to worry about Peanut being my friend. He was solid as a rock and I loved him. Knowing him was indeed a wonderful experience. God bless you and the kids.
