Today marks a milestone for Betty Glover “The Bible Lady” as she turns 100 years old
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- In her now 100 years of life and service to the Lord, Betty Glover known as “Miss Betty” and “The Bible Lady” was honored on Sunday morning at the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. Though she was not able to attend, Dr. Brian Burge, pastor at Cedar Hill, noted “Miss Betty does not like the spotlight.”

Betty, born on small farm in southwest Pennsylvania, trained to become a nurse and then later graduated Bible Training School in New York. In 1958, at age 33, Miss Betty was called to minister in Campbell County at the Christian Camp.

Almost everyone has a story and/or memory of Miss Betty attested by Mark and Melissa Lay, camp directors at Galilee Bible Camp. “When we wear our camp shirts out and about, there’s always someone sharing a story of the camp or Miss Betty,” said Mark Lay.

“I remember the Bible Lady from my days as a student at Valley View Elementary School,” said Campbell County Mayor Jack Lynch. The mayor went on to say that when he was the principal at Ridgewood School, a call came in asking if the Bible Lady could pay the students visit. “I answered “yes” immediately,” said Lynch.

Mark Lay’s association with the Bible Lady began as an elementary school student in the early 1970s. “I was in my front yard in the Catula community, and Miss Betty stopped by and invited me to a Bible club in the mountains,” said Lay.

Over the years, Mark Lay grew up at the camp as he was always there helping , mowing and such. He calls Miss Betty a second mother.

A video of Betty Glover was shown to the congregation during Sunday’s celebration. Mayor Lynch read a proclamation in Miss Betty’s honor to the congregation and presented it to the Lays. At the end of the service, a love offering was collected for the camp.
Here is a note from the Lays at Camp Galilee asking if Miss Betty has touched your life, honor her today by giving to the Ministry she started in 1958, sharing Jesus and helping families survive in the mountains.
