Special 180th Anniversary Homecoming Celebration

JELLICO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)- Good Hope United Baptist Church is pleased – and blessed – to commemorate 180 years of “spreading the gospel” from its vantage point on what was originally known as “Good Hope Hill.” It was founded on October 9, 1844.
It is important to note that Good Hope Church predates the incorporation of the City of Jellico by about 39 years. The City of Jellico was incorporated nearly four decades later in 1883.
In fact, Good Hope United Baptist Church is not only the oldest church in what is now the greater Jellico area but is one of the oldest churches in the region. Many of the churches in the area were founded under the auspices of Good Hope Church.
There have been numerous pastors at Good Hope Church throughout the years. The present pastor is the Rev. James M. Hackler who first attended Good Hope Church with his mother and siblings when was just three years old – nearly 60 years ago. James has a lovely family including his wife of 35 years, Lisa (Haun) Hackler, and two sons, Dustin Hackler, and wife, Raelynne, and Josh Hackler, and nine brothers and sisters.
The previous pastor was the Rev. Jimmy Albertini. Other pastors who served at Good Hope during the last 50 years were the Rev. John Loudin, Rev. David Ball, Rev. Mark Branam, Rev. Don Lay, Rev. Ronald Wilson, and Rev. Verldon “Preacher” Barnes.
A special Homecoming Service with a Homecoming Dinner to follow will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024. The Homecoming Church Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Sunday School beginning at 10:00 a.m. The pastor and congregation invite everyone to attend.
Please join us to celebrate this special “milestone” anniversary. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 10/10/2024-6AM)
