Dwane Boccia, 83, of LaFollette passed away on February 12th, 2025. Unlike previous times, this is not a ploy to avoid creditors or old love interests.
Dwane, known as “Bobo” to his family, was a lifelong member of Boccia Tabernacle of Faith – a church he made up to confuse those who asked where he attended. Much to his wife’s disappointment, he was a lifelong jokester. In seconds, he could decide if he loved you or hated you. If you were on his good side then he was your best friend. It wouldn’t be odd for him to show up at your house to plant flowers randomly, or bring you breakfast out of the blue. If you were on his bad side? He would probably threaten to shoot you – which was his best joke considering he had terrible aim. In his younger days, he once decided to drop everything and moved to the Alaskan wilderness for a few years.
Dwane was a very talented artist, and his favorite canvas was slate. He loved to garden and had a green thumb. His professional career varied widely. He worked for Oscar Mayer and loved the Wienermobile – likely because of the innuendos he could make. Locally, he owned a greenhouse named Plant World and an Ice Cream Shop named Doofs.
Dwane is survived by his wife Marsha Boccia; daughter Amy Long and her husband John Long; and grandsons Brandon Johnson and Johnathon Long.
In true Dwane fashion, he elected not to have any form of funeral service. He wanted his body donated to science. He did not want to be buried locally so that “no one could pee on his grave.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider going out of your way to do something nice for your neighbor if you like them – or consider giving them the middle finger in his honor if you don’t. It’s what he would have wanted.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cumberland Village who provided incredible care to him during his final days.
