Dennis Allen Schmidt, 76, passed away peacefully in Pioneer, Tennessee surrounded by family on the early afternoon of June 15th, 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 18, 1948, to parents Clifford and Freida Schmidt, he lived in Ohio for a time with his family including four siblings, Sally, Ronnie, Skip, and Dale. Dennis served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971 primarily in Korea, a time period in which he had immense pride. He later lived in beautiful Elk Valley in Pioneer, TN for nearly 40 years.
Considered to be a master craftsman, he spent the last several decades working with his hands in the field of carpentry; he worked as a handyman in his community, taking on remodeling and building projects. He incorporated his own personal touch in many projects and helped transform many houses into beautiful homes.
He always tried to look on the bright side, and he was always willing to give away the shirt off of his own back if someone was in need. He was a prankster with friends and family and was always trying to get a laugh or lighten the mood in a serious situation. He loved talking to people, telling them stories or just getting to know them. He also loved cooking, baking, playing games, and reading- often reading through an entire novel in one day.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 18 years, Tracy Schmidt; his sister Sally Kaydo; his children Christina Schmidt, Michael Schmidt, Mechele Clough (Nick Clough), Erika Puzanov (Igor Puzanov), Cobey Schmidt, Jesse Katz (Regina Katz); stepdaughter Jessica McCabe (Cody McCabe); grandkids Alyssa, June, Brianna, Stephen, Elend, Grey, Enzo, Fox, Jacob, and Joseph; and his cat Scrunch.
He will be missed. In lieu of flowers or attending funeral services, please consider donating to the charitable organization that Dennis loved, Skyranch Knoxville Youth, a youth aviation program in Knoxville, TN.
The family has entrusted the care of Dennis Allen Schmidt to Martin Wilson Funeral Home “Where Families Matter Most”.
