Lady Cougars host Hardin Valley Fri; Sat., Cougars at Bearden, Jellico vs. Rockwood- tip times 7pm

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The long, up and down, back and forth basketball seasons for the Campbell Cougars, Lady Cougars and Jellico Blue Devils come down to a series of one game seasons; the region tournament. The Lady Cougars and Jellico host home games while the Cougars hit the road for this weekend’s first round region match-ups.
“Playing in post season is exciting. Our girls have worked really hard for this opportunity, getting to host the first round of regions gives us an advantage,” said Jason Kitts, Head Coach of the Lady Cougars.
The Lady Cougars play on Brown Court Friday at 7pm. The opponent is the Hardin Valley Lady Hawks from District 4. The game will be televised live here over WLAF presented by La Follette Mulch & Stone, Tyler Kirby along with Mickey and Gayle Carter.
“We need our fans to be loud Friday night. It should be an exciting and fast pace game. Hardin Valley likes to push in transition and shoot threes,” said Coach Kitts.
At Lindsay Gym, Jellico hosts Rockwood in round one of the region on Saturday. “I think it’s an advantage to host in the first round. Rockwood is improving and is always well coached. We expect a challenge on Saturday,” said Jellico Head Coach Mike Reynolds.
Also on Saturday, the Cougars open region action. Campbell plays Bearden, one of the top five teams in the state, on the Bulldogs homecourt. The Cougars 17 wins, so far, are the most in eight years when Campbell was 19 & 12 in 2016-2017. “We are just a few plays away from having 23 or 24 wins this season,” said Campbell Head Coach Ernie Clawson.
“We are very excited to get the opportunity to play in the regional tournament again, and we are confident that our team will go and compete on Saturday night. I’m so proud of this team and the drastic improvements that it made from last season.
It’s been decades since Campbell played Bearden on the ‘Dogs homecourt in a region game. “Their hard work and determination to improve and compete on a daily basis has been nothing short of remarkable, and it’s been fun to coach,” said Coach Clawson.
All three games tip off at 7pm. The winning teams advance to play in the region semi-finals next week, the Lady Cougars on Monday, the Cougars and Jellico on Tuesday. The losing teams seasons end.
