JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- Campbell is home tonight for the first time in five weeks, and four freshmen are being called on in what will be their first career starts for Campbell Football. It’s Game 9 for Campbell and Morristown East in a non-region game between two teams that look to finish their seasons on a strong note. Neither qualified for post season play.
At 7pm, Friday, on Reynolds Field, Campbell of 5-A hosts 6-A Morristown East. Campbell won a hard fought 41-31 game at Morristown a season ago over the Hurricanes.
East’s starting quarterback in senior Caleb Billings (#4), a southpaw, was injured earlier this month and gave-way to Freshman Josiah Valentine (#10). Each has played well and is available for service tonight. It’s not sure which quarterback will start and if both will share playing time. “We’ve prepared for both quarterbacks, and both are dual threats. Though one throws better than the other, and one runs better,” said Campbell Head Coach Mark Pemberton.
Four Campbell freshmen get their first career starts tonight. “Braydon Graham (#24) is gonna start at running back for Timmy Gibson (#11). Gibson was out for the Karns game with a concussion, but he will play tonight. Josh Ramsey’s (#51) moving over to the defensive line. So David Wilson (#65) will start on the offensive line for Josh while Will Goins (#64). Max Boshears (#15) is starting at cornerback,” said Pemberton. The veteran coach is pleased he’s getting tight end Gabe Sanders after injury. “He had a lengthy recovery,” said Pemberton.
Gavin Owens ran for 190 yards while Keagon Cowan carried the ball for 105 yards at Karns. “This offense is designed for that, and when we get that third back at a hundred yards, then we’ll really be on high bank,” said Pemberton. “But it’s those guys upfront who make the difference, and they played well at Karns,” adds Pemberton.
