KNOXVILLE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF)– A two vehicle wreck just before 5:30 Tuesday morning happened at Mile Marker 132.6, just south of the Vasper Bridge, on the southbound side of I-75. Injuries were reported, and it was said one or more of the orange barrels, was out of place. Highway 116 is an alternate route.

Motorists traveling on I-75 in Campbell County are reminded of bridge repair activities that are having a significant impact on traffic.

Better Chanee Road, under the Vasper Bridge, connects Hwy 25W with HW Coal Road and Vasper Hollow and is down to one lane as a result of the construction up above on I-75.

I-75 is reduced to one lane in each direction at MM 133, near Exit 134 (Caryville/Jacksboro/La Follette). These lane closures are in place 24/7 and will allow crews to perform substructure and deck repairs to the Vasper Bridges over Better Chanee Road and the R.J. Corman Railroad.

All bridge work is expected to be complete on or before Sunday, May 25.

You have to look closely to see the concrete barriers in place through the construction zone.

This schedule is contingent on favorable weather conditions.  Motorists are advised to expect delays and use extreme caution in this area as workers will be present.

Work on the project began on-site around 7pm Sunday.

As always, drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and “Know Before You Go!” by checking travel conditions before leaving for your destination. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. The TDOT SmartWay system provides the latest construction activity traffic updates. Travelers can also call 511 for travel information. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/29/2025-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S CHARLIE HUTSON)
