JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Commission approved multiple resolutions at its Monday evening meeting, including a resolution “requesting the federal government reverse action taken by the Obama administration as it relates to Medicare reimbursement for county ambulance service.”

The resolution states that “county ambulance services are vital to the safety of citizens … and that county ambulance services across the United States rely partially on reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid which bases its reimbursements based on a county’s status of rural or urban … And Whereas, in 2015 the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services utilized the 2010 census to reclassify zip codes nation-wide which resulted in some areas of Campbell County being reclassified from Rural to Urban, thus resulting in less reimbursement.” According to the resolution, this reclassification from rural to urban cost the county $300,000 in revenue and the “reversal of prior action taken by the Federal Government is necessary to ensure the continued success of ambulance services …

A copy of the resolution will be sent to Senator Marsha Blackburn, Senator Bill Haggerty, Representative Tim Burchett and Representative Chuck Fleischmann.

A tax litigation resolution was approved, lowering the tax by $5. The litigation tax provides compensation for the general sessions court judge in Campbell County. The litigation tax will go down from $50 to $45.

Also approved was a resolution authorizing the county to apply for an airport improvement grant which requires a local match not greater than 5-percent. The grant is administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division.

The Airport Improvement Grant Funding would be used for the proposed lighting project at the Campbell County Airport at a total project cost of approximately $800,152. The resolution, if approved, would commit the county to the 5-percent match of funds if the grant is received. This match equates to approximately $40,008.

Commissioners also approved for the County’s General Sessions Recovery Court to accept a grant contract between the State of Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse for $56,000, as well as a Safe Baby Court grant. Also approved were two communication contracts between Campbell County Public Schools and Active Internet Technologies/Finalsite. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/20/2025-6AM)
