Fund balance monies will cover deficit

CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF)- On Tuesday evening the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met for a special called meeting to discuss the annual operating budget. At last month’s regular meeting a first reading of the budget was on the agenda. However, a motion to approve the budget failed for lack of a second.

Last night the board met with only one item on the agenda, Ordinance 2026-08 adopting the annual operating budget for the fiscal year 2026-27. The projected revenue for the budget is $2,094,000  with $2,440,000 million in expenditures, creating a $346,000 budget shortfall. According to Town Administrator Craig Bennett, the town will cover the shortfall with monies from its fund balance.

Alderman Pat Donahue made a motion to pass the ordinance for the budget with Aldermen Vickie Heatherly making a second. Aldermen Lloyd Lawson, Heatherly, Donahue, Aldermen Josh Monday and Aldermen Eric Jones voted yes. Mayor Beth Lawson voted no and Aldermen Jordan Cross was absent. The ordinance passed.
