County Commission meets in its regular monthly meeting on Monday evening

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- County Commissioners approved to empower “continuing delinquent tax attorney” Joe Coker to assist the county trustee with a $135,000 delinquent tax case.
County Attorney Joe Coker brought the case up on Monday evening regarding a delinquent tax issue. He told commissioners that the trustee was wanting to file a “distress warrant” on a past due personal property tax that was past due from last year.
“The finance office had requested that we pursue this,” Coker said, explaining that to do so, the commission would need empower him to assist as the delinquent tax attorney.
According to Coker, the Company is ANKR Mining and the past due is “about $135,000 from 2023.”
“We got advice from CTAS (County Technical Assistance Service) that we could pursue this before waiting for the normal time to pass if it was more than 30 days past due. Now there is some limitations on what you can do with a distress warrant, so we would want authority for me as continuing delinquent tax attorney in assisting the trustee in filing a distress warrant or in any other action that might be required in an attempt to collect this debt,” Coker said.
Commissioner Rusty Orick made the made the motion to “empower the continuing delinquent tax Attorney Joe Coker to assist the trustee” in this matter.
