A permanent partial closure of Church Street in LaFollette was approved
LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- In about 30 minutes the City of LaFollette Council met and completed the monthly agenda.
First on the agenda were four ordinances and two resolutions. Ordinance 2025-02 amending C2 Hwy Business District permitting retail package stores; Ordinance 2025-03 amending R-1 and R-2 residential districts prohibiting burial plots; Ordinance 2025-04 amending zoning C-1 and C-2 pertaining to storage facilities and Resolution 2025-10 providing for in lieu of tax payments from LaFollette Utilities and Resolution 2025-11 authorizing the issuance of $15,000,000 in aggregate principal amount of electric system revenue bonds were all approved.
A permanent partial closure of Church Street between Nevada Avenue and West Iron Street was approved. An old sweeper truck bed was declared as surplus. Also on the agenda for the public works department was the promotion of Corey Baird to a full time sanitation laborer, the council approved the promotion.
The council approved the promotion of LeeAnn Helton to a full time dispatch supervisor effective May 17. The police department has some outdated police equipment they would like to surplus so that it can be discarded. The council approved declaring the items as surplus.
City Administrator Stan Foust announced a Veterans Banner Dedication Ceremony on Thu., May 22, at 1:30pm, at city hall. Two event permits were approved by the council. The first permit is for Step of Faith Tent Ministries May 16-23, the event will be held on the back half of the property next to Bojangles. The second permit approved was for the Show It Off Festival on June 7. The council approved a portion of East Beech Street to South Cumberland Ave as an approved ATV route.
