LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- The 2,700 City of LaFollette garbage customers could pay more for having their garbage picked up every week. How much more has not been decided. However, a resolution to raise the rates is on the agenda for Tuesday’s regular monthly City of La Follette meeting at 5:30pm at city hall.
At Monday’s workshop, the council discussed the issue of mattress disposal in the city. The city has picked up around 100 mattresses recently, and the county charges $5 per mattress for disposal. As a result of this issue the city is considering raising garbage fees from $10 to $20.
One city official told WLAF that there are approximately 2,700 customers. Quick math comes out that the city is currently bringing in $27,000 a month. Doubling that fee will generate roughly $54,000 a month.
Elsewhere, Caryville’s garbage service costs residents $8 a month while the fee for residents in the Town of Jacksboro is $5.30 monthly. At Jellico, serviced by Waste Connection, it’s $23.00 a month for citizens.
On the agenda for Tuesday’s regular monthly council meeting is Resolution 2026-11, a resolution increasing the refuse fee for the City of La Follette. WLAF News has been told city leaders have yet to decide on the amount.
