LAFOLLETTE, TN. (WLAF)- A new non-profit organization is helping dogs live freely. ChainFree Campbell County is building fences for dogs who are living their lives on a chain.
ChainFree Campbell County is “committed to ending continuous, unattended tethering of dogs in the community.”
“We build a minimum 800 square foot enclosure for one dog using 6×10 foot panels,” said Polly Fisher Linenkugel. Chicken wire along the bottom of the fence is used for dogs that like to dig. Each dog is provided a doghouse, if needed, a water bowl that attaches to the fence, an elevated dog bed, a shade cover that attaches to the fence, and some toys, she said.
There are no income guidelines, according to Linenkugel. “We are not judgmental. We just want dogs to live free.”
In order to qualify for a fence, the dog must be continuously chained and spayed or neutered. By partnering with the Campbell County Shelter and Spay/Neuter Campbell County, ChainFree Campbell County can sometimes assist with spay or neuter expense. Homeowners will need to sign a waiver as will landlords for those who rent, Linenkugel said.
Since Aug. 6, the organization has built six fences giving 10 dogs a chain free life.

ChainFree Campbell County is a chapter of ChainFree USA, which was founded by the Knoxville chapter of the nonprofit. ChainFree Campbell County serves the local community only.
Since forming a local chapter, the builds have gone well. The group has been building fences quicker than the donations have come in, according to Linenkugel.
At the moment, “fundraising is the biggest need,” she said. This includes someone willing to join the group and work on fundraising, Linenkugel.
Volunteers are also needed.

Something needs to be done about the owners of dogs that are allowed to roam free, destroying people’s property and menacing people, in addition to endangering the dogs.
A Great step in the right direction. Perhaps shelters from sun & cold too.
