LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF)- Boy Scout Troop 534 recently held a donation drive to support the victims of Hurricane Helene, gathering and delivering a multitude of supplies to the La Follette Church of God, which is a staging area for flood relief donations.

“In the wake of the hurricane’s devastating impact, our troop mobilized quickly to assist those affected in our community. Over the last week, our scouts, along with their families, worked tirelessly to raise awareness and gather essential supplies,” said assistant scout master Jenny Carta.

“Thanks to the generosity of our community”, Scouts collected a “significant amount of donations, including food, clothing, hygiene products, and financial contributions.”

“Our scouts took great pride in sorting and packaging these items, ensuring they would reach those in need promptly. On October 4th, we delivered the collected donations to La Follette Church of God, where they will be distributed to families affected by the hurricane. It was a heartwarming experience for our scouts to see the direct impact of their hard work and compassion,” Carta said.

Acts of kindness and providing support for your fellow neighbor is part of the Scout belief system, according to Carta who said, “acts of kindness like these can inspire others to give back and support those in need during difficult times” and that it’s important to have “community solidarity in the face of adversity.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-10/08/2024-6AM)
