JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- The Campbell County Board of Education held its regularly scheduled May meeting at Jacksboro Middle School on Tuesday evening, passing a resolution accepting one-time $2,000 teacher bonuses from the state. No discussion was held on the matter at Tuesday’s meeting, and the resolution was approved, along with multiple other action items on the BOE’s agenda.
The resolution affirms participation in Section IV of the Education Freedom Act of 2025 for teachers to receive a one-time bonus of $2,000. In order for teachers to receive the bonus, the resolution had to be adopted before June, and a copy of the resolution returned to the Tennessee Department of Education on or before June 1.
At BOE member Brandon Johnson’s suggestion, a poll was taken on whether or not teachers wanted to accept the bonus from the state. According to the results of the poll shared by Johnson, the “overall sentiment toward the bonus” was positive with 215 teachers responding positive, and 48 responding negative.

The end of the resolution also states that the Campbell County Board of Education “expressed its opposition to the Education Freedom Scholarship Act of 2025 and any future efforts to implement or expand voucher or ESA programs in Tennessee on January 21, 2025.”
After the meeting, BOE Chairman Jeffrey Miller said that was added at the end because the board wanted the language of the resolution to show that the Campbell County BOE “did oppose it and still opposed any future expansion of it, which is coming and will hurt the county.” (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-05/14/2025-6AM)
