Campbell County 15 Jellico 3

By Clayton Carroll

JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF)- It was alumni day and senior day at Brown-Archer Field as Adam Ellison’s Cougars hosted Jellico, a team which Campbell defeated 24-3 earlier in the season.

This time, Jellico struck first to lead the Orange-and-Blue 1-0.

However, Campbell struck back and struck back a plenty.

Koalton Cupp flies around third base, headed for home on his inside-the- park-home run.

Koalton Cupp would even the ball game at one in the bottom of the first by churning around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. Keegan Nelson and Caden Idles also crossed home plate on Cupp’s 3 RBI inside-the-parker.

In the bottom of the second, Caden Idles knocked an RBI triple out toward left field that scored Keegan Nelson. Koalton Cupp then brought home Idles on a fielders choice.

The last run of the second came from a Jake Lawson sac-fly that allowed Rylan Rice to trot across home plate.

Campbell Senior Dylan Ford

Jellico scored once in the top of the third, and CC’s Cooper McQuitty quickly answered in the bottom half with an inside-the-park home run.

In the Cougar fourth inning, the Orange-and-Blue really ran up the scoreboard, an 8 run fourth to be exact.

Caden Idles, Cooper McQuitty, Tyler Cook, Colton Long all had RBIs.  One of Idles’s RBI’s was the third Cougar “touch ‘em all baseball man.”

Cougar Senior Keegan Nelson is with the “Voice of the Cougars” Jake Monday.

This walked off the game due to the 15 run rule after 3 innings.

It took four innings for Campbell to beat Jellico 15-2.

On the bump, Cougar freshman Colton Long had a stellar outing, going four innings with only two runs allowed.

After the game, Cougar coach Adam Ellison and seniors Keegan Nelson and Dylan Ford spoke with “Voice of the Cougars” Jake Monday on WLAF (above video player).

Nelson, playing his first year up on the Hill, was “blessed by God to have the ability to play” so he chose to make the most of it his senior year.

Ford mentioned how although it was tough having three coaches in four years, it was still a great four years on the diamond with plenty of fond memories, especially on the bus rides.

Coach Ellison noted that “a win is a win is a win and we’ll never apologize for it,” but went on to say that a lot of things need to be cleaned up before Campbell’s district doubleheader with Powell on Monday.

The first pitch of the Cougars-n-Panthers double header is Monday at 5:30pm at Powell. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED-04/21/2025-6AM)
