KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF)- “This is a dream job for me,” said first year Campbell Cougar Baseball Coach Adam Ellison. The former Cougar takes his team to north Knoxville today to take on the Fulton Falcons.

“Building a program is something new, and it’s a slow process. Some days we’ve gotten more done than others,” said Coach Ellison.
WLAF Sports caught up with Ellison and a couple of his Cougars, Dylan Ford and Caden Idles, at last week’s East Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association 2nd annual High School Baseball Media Day at Dicks Sporting Goods at West Town Mall Knoxville.

Look for number 15 Dylan Ford in centerfield starting tonight. The senior right hander already has an offer from Milligan University. He also will pitch this season for Campbell. At six foot, two inches, 205 pounds, Ford is in his fourth season of Cougar Baseball.

Number 12 in football and number 3 on the diamond, Junior Caden Idles suits up for his second season for the Orange-n-Blue. Idle’s baseball number comes from the fact that Jesus rose on the third day, he says. Coach Ellison is quick to point out that Idles is Campbell’s utility man spending time at third and on the mound and wherever else needed.

The late Kurt Owens was a role model for Idles during his young days playing Little League Baseball at Lake City (Rocky Top). Ford’s father Matt is his role model.

Ellison, the in-school suspension teacher at Campbell High, played short stop and pitched on Coach Ryan Browning’s first team in 2000 and the next three seasons. He was Coach Brad Collette’s assistant coach for six seasons, four at Campbell, two at Clinton High.

“I will never coach another team. I’m a Campbell County guy, always will be,” said Ellison. Ellison came through Jacksboro Elementary School, Middle School and Campbell High.

First pitch is 6pm at Larry Cox Field along Oglewood Avenue, a couple of blocks north of the Fulton campus.
